37 Club Raise Glasses to Raise Funds

Despite the inauspicious date, the 37 Club held a very successful whisky-tasting event on Friday, April 13 to raise funds for the ice rink project.

Although a high proportion of 37 Club members have already contributed individually, the Club wanted to do more – both to help secure good curling at Murrayfield and to acknowledge the huge effort those leading the project are putting in to bring that about.

Whisky expert Mike Wooderson gave his services (and samples!) free of charge, and the General Manager of The Scotsman Hotel, Barry Makin, provided a lovely room, again at no charge. Although the 37 Club only has 20 members, we were supported by families and friends, and members of some other clubs – the result being that 35 people thoroughly enjoyed the event.

A quiz – on subjects as diverse as whisky (of course), sport, Scotland, and general knowledge – and a raffle for prizes donated by club members and ECC, rounded out a most successful evening.

37 Club members Bryan Little and John Darling worked particularly hard to bring it all together, and the end result will be a donation of £668 to ECC.

Fantastic effort by the 37 Club – and great fun to boot.
